The Stillness & Sanctuary Within You

“Within you is a stillness and a sanctuary to which you can retreat at any time and by yourself.”

-Hermann Hesse

“While Eeyore frets …
… and Piglet hesitates
… and Rabbit calculates
… and Owl pontificates
…Pooh just is.”

-The Tao of Pooh

Forest, Fog, Trees, Road, Spring

Time in the forest, that supreme place of sanctuary and stillness, is a  way of beauty and of finding the stillness and sanctuary within yourself…

a place to just be…

Be who you are.

An Equinox, An Eclipse and A New Moon

Night Sky with CloudsNature’s trifecta embraces us today with possibility, power and presence.

As each day is, it is a time to be reborn.  To find center. To reach new depths. To connect. To be completely and utterly our unique selves.

This day is a harbinger of the richness of the season to come.

May you blossom and grow like this new Spring, bursting forth on all levels and in every dimension.  May you see beauty and know your own.

P.S. The last solar eclipse during a March Equinox was in 1681, so this is a big one!!

Do You Ever Get the Feeling?

“Do You Ever Get The Feeling…?

Do you ever get the feeling
that you live on the threshold
of pure possibility?
That you are life itself,
and the power that creates galaxies
moves through you?
And you are that power?
And every thought, every sensation,
every feeling, however intense,
however uncomfortable, however fragile,
is itself an expression of the same power?
That no thought nor sensation is against you?
That you are vast enough to hold it all?

North Lake McDonald, Yellow Sky

That you are not a person becoming conscious,
nor a seeker seeking that which seekers seek,
but consciousness itself pretending to be
a person becoming conscious,
seeking itself and delighting in the seeking?

That the wave cannot be divided from the ocean?
That you are the destination and the origin?
That love is closer than the next breath?
And infinite peace is your nature and birthright?

Do you ever get the feeling
that you live on the threshold
of pure possibility?
And all the wonders of the universe
are already yours?”

Ravens – A Photo Gallery

Raven teaches me of endless curiosity, partnership, work ethic, continual learning, listening, mystery, intelligence…

They fascinate, stimulate, illuminate.

I am always aware of their presence….

“I am a black bird, a Raven, I am Raven. I know and I am knowing—I know and see life and death, expansion and contraction and I do not shiver and cry—I am unafraid.

I am Raven. I am black as liquid night with wings and my eyes are stars to see by.

The light within me leads the way and it is revealed through my eyes and I am what lies between the dark and light.

I am the balance between.”

Seven Sacred Principles

In a class I’m taking on line, a video featuring Doniga Markegard of Markegard Family Grass-Fed, explains how the seven sacred principles of the Lakota nation were taught to her as a child by her mentor Gilbert Walking Bull, and how these principles continue to inform her life and her approach to business.  Her family farm in California, her commitment to these principles, to teaching, to connections, and to community are an inspiration.

“Between stimulus and response, there is space.  In that space is our power to choose our response.  In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”

-Viktor Frankl

“And the wiser you get, the more you slow down your thinking, and the more conscious you become of your emotional triggers, the more you can expand that tiny little pause – that precious little space – in which to CHOOSE how to be.  That’s where it’s at.  Choosing instead of reacting.”

-Elizabeth Gilbert
